The diet and supplement industry is a multi-billion dollar industry
which preys on millions of un-knowing individuals. Unfortunately
as the diet and supplement indurate grows so has the obesity epidemic.
This simple fact just goes to show you that the majority of the
popular diets and supplements simply do not work. In fact most
of the supplements and calorie restrictive diets on the market
do more harm than good. Instead of losing fat and keeping it off,
people are losing weight and then gaining it right back and then
some. This is what I call The Curse of The Diet.
The fact is most calorie restrictive diets make you fatter. When
calories are restricted too much the body will adapt to the lack
of nutrients and change the way it processes food. This process
is called Starvation Mode and it is the bodies way
of compensating for not having enough food to burn for energy.
What happens is the body begins cannibalizing muscle for food
and storing fat much more efficiently, essentially making you
fatter. Considering that muscle weighs more than fat, this phenomena
will usually show a decrease in weight and this is what tricks
people into thinking that the diet is effective. Unfortunately
the damage has already been done and the individual is left with
less muscle and more fat and their ability to burn fat has been
reduced.
So how does one lose weight?
First of all you concentrate on losing fat not weight. The only
way to burn fat is by eating the correct amount of foods at the
right time and working out regularly.
What is the right amount of calories?
There is no set amount that works
for every individual. Every person is different because they lead
different lifestyles, have different activity levels and burn
calories at different rates. This being said there are a few formulas
that that I use which will acculturate calculate your recommended
Diet Calorie Level (DCL).
You are welcome to calculate your (DCL) using the web based program
I developed to show you the proper amount of calories you should
taking in on a daily basis during a diet.

here for free access to my DCL calculator!
When should I eat and how much?
Again, its different for each person. In general you should
be eating no less than 5 times per day. The program I mentioned
above will not only give you your daily recommended DCL, but it
will give you recommended meal times, calorie counts for each
meal as well as some sample menus.
